As publishing people we recognise that authors need to be able to participate online to reach ever-expanding online communities, but we also recognise that all authors are different – with varying degrees of interest in websites and social media – so our sessions are specifically tailored to small group of authors.
As a highly experienced and creative partnership, The Literary Platform and The Curved House can create bespoke workshops for publishers, literary agents and their writers. These are designed around writers’ experience, genre or specific goals such as ‘setting up a website in a day’, ‘starting a blog’, ‘improving your discoverability’ and more.

Developing an online presence has become essential for any writer wishing to connect with readers and raise their profile as a writer, irrespective of what stage they are at in their writing career or whether they are traditionally published, self-published or aspiring.
The Literary Platform and The Curved House have created an intimate one-day workshop that blends theoretical and strategic with practical activities. These sessions also provide writers with a chance to learn from each other’s experiences and from trainers with direct publishing experience. By the end of the day participants will have a strategy tailored to their own needs and aims and a concrete list of actions.
Morning session – theory and context of developing your online presence
-Publishing 2013: the role of digital media in publishing and selling books.
-Developing your online presence: exploration of how websites, social media and other online activities interact to create an online ‘footprint’.
-Marketing your books: how to reach readers directly or indirectly.
-Working with your agent and publisher: how to get the best out of online activity around you.
Afternoon session – hands-on sessions in groups of 5/6
-Developing and maintaining your author website.
-Social media: selecting the platforms that are right for you, and harnessing their unique strengths.
-‘Discoverability’: getting noticed, understanding data analytics tools and where your audience is.
