Interactive Storytelling Design: Video Games and Beyond at the University of Exeter

An exciting new MA programme at the University of Exeter for storytellers and innovators
A new MA programme is being launched this year at the University of Exeter, which will offer an opportunity for those interested in the experiential and interactive storytelling space.
Interactive Storytelling Design: Video Games and Beyond is an interdisciplinary graduate programme in Exeter that aims to support the next generation of innovators in the interactive storytelling industries. Students on this course will combine practical experience, playful learning and cutting-edge theory to become talented narrative designers and storytellers across a wide range of sectors and technologies.
The programme has been established as a response to the growing and ambitious area of participatory and game-like experiences. The University of Exeter is a leading player in the academic area of experiential storytelling and narrative design,  having recently announced a new Experiential Story Lab (ESL), led by The Literary Platform directors, which acts as a new space for collaborative experimentation in how stories are designed, shared and experienced.

We created this MA to provide foundational training in interactive storytelling, no matter what technology a student wants to use or what career path they might take. The ability to meaningfully involve an audience in a narrative is increasingly important beyond the videogames industry: in arts and culture, journalism, political activism, science communication, charity work, heritage interpretation and many other sectors. This MA will provide a space to experiment, learn and create a launchpad for whatever comes next!
