The Literary Platform team to Lead Experiential Storytelling Lab at the University of Exeter
The Experiential Storytelling Lab will build on a track record of delivering collaborative digital stories through The Literary Platform, from Issue Six of The Lit Glitch to audio-enabled multidisciplinary publication The Tilt.
The Experiential Storytelling Lab (ESL) at the University of Exeter will offer a space for exploring new approaches to storytelling in order to explore contemporary traditions of ‘liveness’.
The Lab will develop activities that connect expertise and networks within the University of Exeter with organisations working in and beyond the creative industries. The approach is to offer a dynamic and inclusive environment (digital and live) that creates opportunities for ideation and prototyping, as well as delivering linked executive education. An interdisciplinary focus allows the team to experiment with stories in different environments, from physical spaces to digital platforms. By building on Exeter’s strengths in creative practice and innovation, The Literary Platform team will explore how narratives can be designed, experienced, and adapted in new ways.
“We’ve seen through our work in literary media and technology that increasingly people are looking to experience narratives in more immersive and interactive forms, so we’re pleased to be leading on a project that will innovate this area further, and for its potential applications across industry and academia. I am looking forward to working with experts in experiential storytelling at the University of Exeter, and we’re grateful to the University for recognising the potential impact of this work. We’re excited to see where this practice-based research will take us.”
Anna Kiernan, Publisher and Director at The Literary Platform
The University of Exeter has a rich heritage in immersive arts, performance and creative practice and writing, as well as pioneering cultural alumni including Punchdrunk (Felix Barrett, Peter Higgin), Radiohead (Thom Yorke), and Stanley Donwood. ESL hopes to bring a playful new perspective to these established narratives through conversation, collaboration and experimentation.
If you have experience in, or a perspective on, experiential storytelling, The Literary Platform is collating feedback via an online survey. Please share your thoughts here: https://forms.office.com/e/SA5ThCQBad
