The Literary Platform is interested in exploring ideas that exist in the worlds of storytelling, social change, publishing and innovation.

Following on from the success of our digital and print publications over the last year, we’re looking for a committed and ambitious Assistant Editor to work with us on the next issue of The Lit, a digital magazine published by The Literary Platform.

This will involve shaping the editorial theme for the issue, shaping call outs for features from writers and supporting with editing the issue, published Spring 2022.

We are also looking for an Assistant Art Director to art direct the issue, including developing the design / illustration approach for the issue, and sourcing / briefing illustrator(s) for each issue accordingly.

Please take a look at previous issues of The Lit to see our overarching approach.

This is a collaborative project between Falmouth University and the University of Exeter. Applications for these roles are invited from universities in the South West. Each successful applicant will be paid a £250 bursary for the role. As well as payment, these two roles will be mentored by experts from two leading creative agencies in the South West: Stranger Collective and Venn Creative. They will also play a key role in building (and managing) a small creative team.

The role will involve subsequent paid calls for content – written and visual – open to new and emergent creative voices in the South West.

The two roles will work in dialogue with one another, their mentors, and their team to bring the next issue of The Lit to publication in Spring 2022. This will involve at least one editorial meeting in-person to develop individual ideas into an editorial theme, and a networking event between the two institutions.

The Literary Platform is committed to pursuing equity and inclusion in the publishing industry, starting with our own publications. Candidates with diverse personal and professional backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
