The Owl Field, producers of immersive audio dramas using 3D audio, have been awarded funds from the National Lottery through Creative Scotland to produce an interactive and user-personalised 3D Audio Drama.
This new production will feature an interactive choose-your-path narrative, will include multiple possible endings, and will give listeners the opportunity to personalise their version by having the story’s characters address them by their chosen name. Together with a full cast, custom sound effects, and original cinematic score, this creates a truly unique entertainment experience.
The growth of audio entertainment in publishing alongside the rise of 3D Audio and virtual reality highlights the demand for immersive, 3D audio storytelling in publishing, particularly in relation to the considerable lack of audio drama for children. This feature-length fantasy adventure, aimed at ages 8+, is written by award-winning audio dramatist Domien de Groot and produced by The Owl Field, winners of the bronze award for The Bookseller’s FutureBook BookTech Company of the Year 2015.
The audio production is also accompanied by a chapter-navigation file that is compatible with screen readers for people living with sight loss.
“I’m hoping this project’s success could pave the way for a wider focus on audio-only immersive content, as this is particularly important in engaging young people with sight loss in both entertaining and educative applications,” said Producer, Michel Lafrance.
Orders for personalised versions are available at owlfield.com from 12/07/2016, with the release date this autumn.
