An app for students and fans of American novella Of Mice and Men is launched today by Mammoth Graphics.
It is interesting timing for release as the 75 year old story of migrant workers during the Great Depression has made the headlines recently in the controversy surrounding changes to the national curriculum put in place by Education Secretary Michael Gove, which has meant less room on syllabuses for 20th Century American literature, and this text in particular, which at one point was estimated by the Department for Education to be studied by 90% of GCSE students.
Thousands of people have signed a petition in response.
The app aims to help all readers immerse themselves in the popular story with an audio reading of the analysis to cater to people that are aural learners.
Actors including Andy Robb, Jim Harper and Katie Warren voiced the text and digital artist Ozan Civit illustrated the characters and locations of the novella.
The app is available now from Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store.
