Literary Workshops at The Groucho

In a world where Booker Prize winner Margaret Atwood is writing on Wattpad and National Book Award winner Joyce Carol Oates is writing fanfiction inspired by a videogame, what does the future hold for literary writers in the new online and digital space?

We’ll be running a half-day informal workshop held at The Groucho Club, Soho London is designed especially for literary writers who are interested in finding out more about the digital projects that some of our best known literary names are involved with, and to better understand what these projects might offer the wider literary community.

Looking also at the impact of social media and the direct relationship literary writers now have with their readers, this intimate group session (no more than twenty authors) will look at online behaviour and consider the delicate balance between interaction with readers and direct marketing.

How much should authors give away online and should the literary writer retain a bit of anonymity? And does reader interaction spell the end of the creative process of writing as we know it?

It will also examine what other platforms literary writers can experiment on and how this activity can sit with an existing publisher relationship.

Once booked delegates can let organisers have more information about their particular needs and areas of interest, creating a perfectly tailored session for the audience. Delegates can choose either a morning or an afternoon session.
