The FutureBook Innovation Workshop will take place on 16th June 2011, and is being run in association with us – The Literary Platform – as we love to explore projects at the intersection of literature and technology. Sophie Rochester, who established The Literary Platform, is spearheading the event on behalf of FutureBook.net.
The half-day event will see publishers showcase their recent apps, enhanced e-books and e-books, and share best-practice with fellow publishers. In addition, the conference will provide a platform for publishers to meet with developers, with a “speed-dating” session aimed at putting book professionals in touch with potential digital partners. An industry Q&A will also provide practical guidance on recent market developments.
Booking is available now at the standard rate of £169 per delegate, with a reduced offer of £152.10 for subscribers, and a discount for double-bookings of £300 (available until 22nd April). The boutique event will have space for 150 delegates, and will take place at an exclusive venue in central London.
Philip Jones, deputy editor of The Bookseller and co-founder of FutureBook, said: “Our aim is for UK publishers to ‘show and tell’ the developments that have taken place since the last FutureBook Conference in November. The industry is moving at a frenetic pace, and we need space to draw a breath, look at what we’ve done and build on the successes. This conference will pack the biggest digital punch in the shortest possible time.”
Rochester added: “We’ve seen some inspiring digital projects launched in recent months, but with the digital landscape changing so rapidly UK publishers have to continue to think innovatively. The FutureBook Innovation Workshop will give publishers and developers the chance to evaluate and learn from these successes and failures, enabling the industry to adapt and evolve successfully.”
Publishers who wish to speak at the event and showcase their recent or future developments should email Sophie at [email protected]. The cut-off for entries in 21st April. Anyone selected for inclusion will automatically go through to the next FutureBook Digital Innovations Awards, the winners of which will be announced at the next FutureBook conference on 1st December 2011.
Developers and technology companies who wish to contribute and attend the ‘speed-dating’ session should contact Marzia Ghiselli at [email protected].
