The New Goodbye app

The New Goodbye is an app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, designed and developed by Russell Quinn, creator of McSweeney’s Small Chair app, and designer of the Wallpaper* City Guides and Creative Review’s Annual 2010 apps.

The app includes The New Goodbye, a short novel by Neil George Ayres, and The Dialogue of the Dogs, a  novelette by Miguel Cervantes about two dogs granted the power of speech, illustrated by Johanna Basford with a two metre long finely detailed pen and ink drawing.

Cover and additional photography is by Nicole Heiniger, and an exclusive music track by Rich Watson has been commissioned for the app.

A free ‘Romantic Gestures’ feature encourages users to send sentimental messages to one another accompanied by one of Basford’s intricate illustrations.

There are also short stories, chapter illustrations, additional photography, full credits and contributor biographies and a behind-the-scenes video of the cover shoot and a stop-motion film of the cover being created.
