26 Exchanges: Journeys Between and Behind the Lines of Language is an installation exploring the boundaries of language and translation through typography, and was launched as part of the London Design Festival in September 2009.
AllofUs, Pentagram, International PEN, 26 and UNESCO worked in collaboration with texts from all around the globe, written by members of 26 and PEN who were paired up to investigate the idea of langauge and journey in translation.
The texts were creatively interpreted bringing the lines of language to life in an exhibition environment. The installation included thirteen animations. These animations were not just visual and typographic representations of the texts themselves, but also took inspiration from the origin, the accent and the phrasing of the spoken word.
