The Story announces new speakers for 2012

The Story has announced more speakers for its 2012 event. Founded by Mat Locke, this unique event celebrates ‘everything that is wonderful, inspiring and awesome about stories, in whatever medium possible.’

Tom Watson and Emily Bell will be at The Story talking about the Hackgate scandal, giving us an insiders’ perspective on how the story unfolded, what it feels like to be part of a breaking news story.  Karen Lubbock, creator of Karen Magazine, will be talking about how to make a magazine out of stories of ordinary lives. She will be in conversation with Jeremy Leslie who runs MagCulture, a blog celebrating editorial design in magazines and print culture.

These newly announced speakers will join an already stellar list – including Matthew Sheret and Simon Thornton who will talk about music, ‘the lost art of telling a story through sequencing album tracks, and the new patterns of attention around online music’, artist Jeremy Deller whose work ‘explores issues of collaboration, folk culture and politics through installations, video pieces and performances’,writer, blogger and polymath Liz Henry a developer at BlogHer ‘one of the most respected speakers and writers about technology and culture’, Fiona Raby, partner in the design partnership Dunne & Raby, and Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and a Reader in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art in London, Matthew Herbert, musician and composer who works principally turning everyday sounds in to music, Ellie Harrison who ‘makes work which moves constantly between the roles of ‘artist’, ‘activist’ and ‘administrator’’,  Anthony Owen ‘widely acknowledged as one of the UK’s most prolific and influential magical creators’, writers and producers, Tom Chatfield and Phil Stuart who will be talking about The End, a game produced for Channel 4 Education about philosophy, belief and death and Danny O’Brien ‘one of the most influential writers, journalists and activists of the last 20 years’.

If you’ve not yet made it to The Story before then we urge you to try and buy the last tickets for this event. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll meet some inspiring people and come away with a hundred thoughts to take back to your desk.
